Several members of the HVCHS Unified Track Team traveled to Orlando, Florida on Saturday, June 4th with 187 members of the New Jersey Delegation to compete in the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games. They were selected to represent the entire state in Unified Track after tryouts in August of 2021.
For the first time ever Unified Track, which brings together Special Olympics athletes and their general education peers to play as one, was introduced into competition on the national level. The Central High School Unified Track Team brought four athletes, three partners, and two coaches to participate in this historic event. Erin C., Dan E., Joontae H., Kate P., Chris T., Ravi W. and Lauryn W. jumped, threw and ran their way to victory! They fly home today, Sunday, June 12th, decorated with 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. They were celebrated by their coaches, head coach Chris Fossel, interim head coach Meaghan McGowan and assistant coach Tom Walsh, as well as their proud families and friends back home, including their partner and teammate, Caroline M., who was unable to travel with them. Their trip was filled with countless personal records, friendly competition, and an outstanding experience that only comes once in a lifetime.
Remember to always Play Unified and always Choose to Include!
